Mount Vernon Hotel Museum

Yesterday, I am going to this Mount Vernon Hotel museum with my baby sister to explore.

Across the street, caught my eyes with these greenish leaf blendly down

The main estate house, located southwest of the carriage house, is destroyed by fire. The stone carriage house is purchased by Joseph Hart, who concerts it into the Mount Vernon Hotel, a popular country day resort for New Yorkers living in the crowded city on the southern tip of the island.

The museum's building is constructed as a stone cariage house on a twenty-three acre estate, located about four miles north of NYC.

The most particular is the brick puzzel of 1799 on top of the window.

In 1833, Jeremiah Towle purchases the building and uses it as his family home for over seventy years. In 1905, Towle's daughters sell the building to the standard Gas & light company (Known as Con Edison today).1919, Jane Teller, president of the society of American Antiquarians, leases the house and opens it as an antiques shop.

1924, The colonial Dames of America purchase the building and undertake its extensive restoration.

Hidden treasures

1939, The building opens as the Abigail Adams Smith House, an historic house museum, to conincide with opening of the 1939 NY world's fair.

1967, The NYC preservation commission designates the site an historic landmark.

1973, The site is added to the National Register of Historic Places.
